I'm going to Europe in October. ICP has a few gigs (Turkey, Germany, The Netherlands); also I'll be doing a tour with Peter Broetzmann and Ken Vandermark. Among other things we'll perform at the legendary Donaueschingen Festival.

German director Wim Wenders will use some of my T.O.M. music for his documentary about the late Pina Bausch. The film will be released in February 2011.

In November, I'm looking forward to the release of a trio date on Clean Feed Records.
Recorded live in Queens in 2008, and featuring Joe Hertenstein and Pascal Niggenkemper, the music consists of Joe's and my pieces. We have an invitation to play a few concerts in Portugal in February 2011 - that should be fun!

Did you know that ICP has 2 new releases available, one of them on vinyl exclusively?
This is the first time since Alexander von Schlippenbach's ECM record back in 1990 that I have participated on a vinyl LP.

I've made a new solo recording. My previous ones (a total of 5 in the last 20 years) all incorporated additional electronics alongside the horn, but here I'm going "all the way":
One trumpet at a time, no additional acoustic sources, no editing. The music applies a vast variety of conventional and extended techniques, but the most distinctive component, making this production totally unique, is the exclusive use of circular breathing.

The trio of pianist Andreas Schmidt, drummer Samuel Rohrer, and myself on 1/4-tone
trumpet did a recording in Berlin that has been released on the Jazzwerkstatt label entitled: "Pieces for a Husky Puzzle." Great music, great cover and beautiful liner-notes by my old friend, the legendary German radio host Uli Ohlshausen. Read a 5 star review here.

A selection of my scores is available for download. You can find out about the semantics
of my own notation (called Banners n' Bubbles), check materials and "regular" tunes.

A documentary on Han Bennink is available at Data Images. It was done by Jellie Dekker
and Dick Lucas, and includes footage of ICP concerts in Banff and Amsterdam with guests Dave Douglas and Peter Broetzmann.

Similar to 2007's SLOOPS!, I've released an entire "album" (if I'm allowed this ancient term) online exclusively. Listen to and download the music in good MP3 quality (160kBit/s) for free (LISTEN). Entitled FIVE BY FIVE, it consists of 5 duets with my wonderful colleagues:
Joachim Badenhorst, Harris Eisenstadt, Achim Kaufmann and Okkyung Lee.
Mostly recorded live in various venues in NYC and Brooklyn during the first half of 2009,
it has a lot of beautiful interplay and puts my 1/4-tone horn to good use.

German choreographer Pina Bausch, whose work is credited with revolutionising the
language of modern dance, died on June 30th. What a loss. The last time I saw her company was here at BAM last winter. I'm proud to have contributed to two of her works. Take the time to watch this beautiful film about her work, which includes some of my
music used in her pieces: Pina Bausch (documentary by Anne Linsel).

I've written a bunch of short texts in order to explain my current point of view on a
variety of topics. Trumpet Mechanics; What's up with that?

There's a Eugene Chadbourne DVD available from a gig at The Stone in NYC:
The Jack and Jim Show featuring Brian Jackson, Tony Trischka, Jimmy Carl Black
(who passed away on November 1st, 2008), and myself. It can be ordered for
$15 + postage. Just send me a note.

My bio can be found on Wikipedia.

Since the beginning of 2008 I have been playing on a 1/4-tone trumpet built for me by
Dieter Gaertner.

All About Jazz has voted the Han Bennink and Friends show at the Tonic in New York
among the city's "Performances of the Year 2007." "Friends" included Ellery Eskelin,
Anthony Coleman, Dave Douglas, Marcus Rojas and myself.
